Felixstowe: Coastal Beauty

Could this be better than Brighton or Aldeburgh?

If you’ve been wanting to travel to a beautiful beach similar to where they go in Downton Abbey, Felixstowe may be your best bet. It is hard to pick the best beach to visit since there are so many great ones, but Felixstowe takes the cake for us. It has everything someone could ask for in a beach community and so much more.

Felixstowe sits in the Suffolk region of England, just southeast of Ipswich. The colourful tiny homes on the rocky sand gives it its signature coastal appearance. These are tiny homes that can hold storage for all your beach necessities. You’ll see generations of families renting these spaces out as they bask in the sun (whatever sun we get during the year). The water tends to be cold year-round, but that doesn’t seem to stop some brave souls from courageously diving into the ocean.

It’s not just swimming and sunbathing that attracts people to Felixstowe - there are many activities to do in and around the area. There are countless carnivals and arcades that children and adults alike enjoy, many shops and boutiques, restaurants, ice cream parlours, and pier walks by the water. There is even a mini golf near the beach where you can engage in friendly competition with your friends (still haven’t won a game of mini golf yet).

Perhaps there is nothing better than grabbing fish and chips by the pier and enjoying it by the beach. Be sure to drench your fish and chips in malt vinegar for best results! Felixstowe is about enjoying the simplicities of life. During our travels to coastal England, we feel that Felixstowe is the most family-friendly town to visit. There seems to be more to do than in other towns, and the scene out here is completely different from other coastal towns we have visited in England.

So, if you’re in England and want a coastal getaway, Felixstowe should definitely be on your list, especially if you have small children. It is a charming town that you will fall in love with again and again.
