Top Drinks to Enjoy in Lisbon, Portugal
#1 - Green Wine
Green wine doesn’t mean drinking Nickelodeon slime. It’s simply wine made from green grapes. It is served cold… and my gosh is it refreshing! It’s a very nice wine perfectly paired with fresh seafood or alone during a warm afternoon. Honestly, it kind of rivals the wine we’ve had in Italy and Spain.
#2 - Port
While it’s not technically a Lisbon-specific drink, it is a Portuguese staple. Originally created nearby in Port, Portugal, this is a very rich dark wine that is usually paired with desserts or alone. It’s very dry, so be prepared for some intense flavour.
#3 - Super Bock
We found Super Bock everywhere… and we mean EVERYWHERE. Clearly, it was the beer of choice in Portugal, as nearly every restaurant and bar we went to usually had dozens of people with a Super Bock in hand. While it’s not our favourite European beer, it was certainly nice and refreshing.
#4 - Ginjinha
Ginjinha, also known as Ginja, is a very smooth liqueur made from ginja berries. Ginja berries are kind of like cherries, but they’re smaller and more acidic. The ginja is infused with alcohol and added sugar. Originally created as medicine, this liqueur is a nice shot for any time of day!
#5 - Sagres
The last Portuguese-specific drink that you’ll find everywhere in Lisbon is Sagres. You can technically find it in other countries, such as here in the UK. It is arguably better than Super Bock, in our opinion. If you’ve had Shiner Bock before, you’ll find that Sagres tastes very similar. A nice way to finish off a long day of sightseeing in Portugal!
